Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG "Taxi" (Style Code: 555088-711) *Pre-Loved*

The Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG "Taxi" (Style Code: 555088-711), also widely known as the "Yellow Toe," is one of the most celebrated modern releases of the iconic silhouette. Released globally on September 24, 2022, for a retail price of $170, its history bridges the gap between hyper-exclusive musician player exclusives (PEs) and Jordan Brand's most beloved heritage colorways.

The story of the "Yellow Toe" actually began four years before its retail release. [1]
  • In 2018, Jordan Brand created a nearly identical colorway as a Player Exclusive (PE) for Zach Myers, the lead guitarist of the rock band Shinedown. [1]
  • That original version featured a vibrant "University Gold" color scheme and a small Shinedown exclamation point logo stamped on the heel. Because it was never released to the public, it became a legendary "grail" for sneaker collectors, commanding thousands of dollars on the secondary market. [1, 2, 3]
🎨 The Design & Color-Blocking
When Jordan Brand finally decided to give the sneaker a general retail release in late 2022, they tweaked the formula slightly to honor brand history: [1, 2]
  • The "Taxi" Shift: Instead of using University Gold, designers pulled the "Taxi Yellow" amber hue famously used on the 1996 Air Jordan 12.

By the time 2022 arrived, the Air Jordan 1 High hype had peaked, making the "Yellow Toe" a heavily anticipated release that many collectors felt was "long overdue". It successfully closed the chapter on one of Jordan's most famous unreleased samples and remains highly regarded as one of the cleanest non-original colorways ever applied to the high-top silhouette.
