Originally scheduled for Charlotte, North Carolina, the 2017 NBA All-Star Game was relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana. To celebrate the vibrant nightlife and high energy of the city, Jordan Brand dropped the "Gotta Shine" collection.
The pack featured three distinct silhouettes: the Air Jordan 1, the Air Jordan 31, and the Air Jordan 6. All three models were tied together by a shared design language using high-grade leather treated with a distinct, color-shifting iridescent sheen meant to mimic the fluid transition of light over a chameleon's skin. Design Innovations & Hidden Details
The Air Jordan 6 was the centerpiece of this pack, combining Tinker Hatfield's legendary 1991 silhouette with modern, premium material updates:
- Rub-Off Upper: One of the most unique aspects of the leather upper is its "rub-off" property. Similar to the famous Air Jordan 12 Wings, natural wear or purposeful wiping over time exposes brighter, more concentrated colors hidden beneath the initial dark metallic finish.
- Hexagonal Branding: Abandoning traditional standard embroidery, the heel features a Jumpman badge enclosed in a geometric, hexagon border.
- Integrated Iridescence: The color-shifting properties weren’t just constrained to the leather. The lace tips, sections of the midsole accents, and parts of the icy translucent outsole were all injected with the chameleon color treatment.
